Shirley Burch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Funeral & Cremation Service on Mar. 27, 2026.
Shirley A. Burch, 87, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Aviata at Grand Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on October 4, 1938, in Washington, D.C., Shirley lived a life filled with love, dedication, and quiet strength. On August 11, 1954, she married the love of her life, Alton J. Burch. Together, they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on family, laughter, and unwavering devotion until his passing in 1996.

After graduating from high school, Shirley began her career with the CIA, where she faithfully served for 37 years before retiring in 1993. Her strong work ethic and commitment carried into retirement, when she and her husband moved from Forestville, Maryland, to Palm Coast, Florida.

After Alton's passing, Shirley remained active and connected, working at Publix for 10 years, where she enjoyed the friendships she made along the way. A woman of faith, Shirley was a devoted member of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Forestville, Maryland, and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Palm Coast, Florida. She also found joy and fellowship as a member of the Women of the Elks and the CIA Retirement Group.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alton; her daughter, Sherri Matullo; and her sister, Patricia Murphy. She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory always, including her son, William J. Burch, Sr., and daughter-in-law, of South Carolina; her five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her dear niece and nephew.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Shirley's name to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 5400 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32137.
