Shirley Jean Chesné

Funeral Mass for Shirley Chesné of Moreauville will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moreauville with Fr. Brian Seiler officiating. Visitation will take place at 8:00am until 10:45am on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Escude Funeral Home in Moreauville. Rosary prayer will be held before the funeral mass. Interment will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Shirley Jean Rachal Chesné, 87, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Rivière de Soleil Community Care Center in Mansura under the care of All Saints Hospice.

Born on Sunday, December 5, 1937, in Big Bend, Shirley was the third of eleven children. She often recounted stories where she and her siblings would miss the first six weeks of school to pick cotton only to play catch up when they arrived back to school. Her first job was, as she referred to it, au Petit Restaurant in Moreauville. She and Floyd married on June 12, 1954 at Christ the King in Simmesport and had three children: Yvonne, Glenn, and Valerie. Following the death of her husband, Shirley moved to Moreauville and worked as a certified nursing assistant for Capital Home Health until she retired in the late 1990s.

Maman Shirley had a significant presence in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always ready to share her homemade bread, okra gumbo, spaghetti, or fresh cucumbers from her garden. She had an incredible green thumb and kept an immaculate yard, which she push-mowed for over two decades. Maman enjoyed line dancing to the Freeze and doing the jitterbug at Ellie's. She passed some good times at the casino and was an avid Bingo player at the Sacred Heart Fair.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Chesné; son, Glenn Chesné; parents, Joseph Valley, Sr. and Azilda Marcotte Rachal; sister, Genevieve Chesné; and infant sister; brothers, Harold Rachal, Roger Rachal, and Charles Rachal.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Yvonne Rivière (Donald) and Valerie Chesné; grandchildren, Rebecca Gauthier, Danielle Rivière, Donald Rivière II, Andrew Rivière, Derek Chesné, William Lambing, Caroline Lambing, and Bethany Lambing; sisters, Betty Chesné and Gail Rachal; brothers, Joseph Valley Rachal, Jr., Jessie Rachal, Faren Rachal, and Ronnie Rachal.
