WALNUT RIDGE - Shirley Louise Coots, 79, passed away on Dec. 7, 2025, in Walnut Ridge. She was born on Feb. 3, 1946, in Cash, to Marvin Coots and Ethel McQuay Coots.
Shirley was a member of the Cash Church of Christ and enjoyed working on puzzles, crosswords, and reading. She played softball when she was younger and was an especially talented pitcher. Shirley taught school for many years, sharing her love of learning with future generations. Above all else, Shirley loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Rose and Barbara Riggs, and her brothers, Jerry Coots and Wayne Coots.
Shirley is survived by her brothers, Buddy (Frankie) Coots of Wisconsin, Larry (Gloria) Coots of Jonesboro, and Wade (Kay) Coots of Jonesboro; several beloved nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Emerson Funeral Home with Brother Dick Blackford officiating. Keith Coots, Steven Riggs, Barry Riggs, Shannon Rose, Aaron Coots, and Khristan Uran will serve as pallbearers. Shirley's nieces and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow at Worley Cemetery in Cash.
