Shirley Leona Cummings

Shirley Leona Cummings of Hillsdale, Michigan passed away on November 6, 2025. She was born on September 11, 1935 in Denver, Colorado, to Leslie and Leona (Stone) Howell.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Sandi (Tony) Carlin, Gail (Mark) VanDaff, and Bambi Luke; grandsons, David (Susan) Carlin and Michael Luke; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in passing by her parents, Leslie and Leona (Stone) Howell; her loving husband, Teddy R. Cummings; and three sisters.
Shirley graduated from Denver South High School and went on to marry Teddy Cummings on her birthday September 11, 1953, in Denver Colorado. Shirley enjoyed working for the Hillsdale Daily News. She also was a book keeper for her husband and grandfathers' business, Marry's Safety Service.
In her free time Shirley loved to read, enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, ceramics, and listening to WCSR and her personal police scanner. She was also a fan of both the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers. When she would go out, she liked to garden, help deliver food with Meals on Wheels, and participate in the United Methodist Women's group, and the Red Hats.
Shirley was known to be spunky, some would even say feisty, and she had a wonderful sense of humor. Above everything else in her life Shirley loved her family, she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will take place on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Hampton Funeral Home in Hillsdale at 12:00 P.M. The family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
