Shirley Jean Wilson Fields, age 87, of Lebanon, Ohio, peacefully passed away on June 8, 2025, under the compassionate care of Hospice of Cincinnati. Born on May 6, 1938, in Menifee County, Kentucky, Shirley was the beloved daughter of Johnson and Effie Myrtle Wilson. She grew up on Dan Ridge in Wellington, Kentucky, and carried her Appalachian roots proudly throughout her life.
Before moving to Middletown, Ohio, Shirley attended Morehead University of Kentucky, where she studied education-a reflection of her lifelong dedication to nurturing others.
Shirley married the love of her life, Kenneth Aaron Fields, Sr., on June 1, 1963, at First United Methodist Church in Middletown, Ohio, a church where she remained a long-time member. She also worshiped at West Side Church of Christ in Lebanon, Ohio, alongside Ken and their daughter Bridgette's family.
Known as "Jo" to her family and "Sheryl" to her husband, Shirley began her career as a secretary at Armco after moving to Middletown with her younger sister Bonnie. She later dedicated her life to being a loving and present stay-at-home mother. Her deep involvement in her children's lives was evident, serving as room mother, President of the PTO at Creekview Elementary, and board member at Doty House.
Shirley supported her children in all things-from being a dance mom to a band parent, and everything in between. She never missed an opportunity to cheer them on, encourage their passions, or stand by their side.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gaylord Fairel Wilson; her son, Kenneth Aaron Fields, Jr.; and her stepdaughter, Karen Hope Fields.
She is survived by her devoted children: Bridgette Sue Fields Hudyk (Jason) and Brad; and her stepdaughter, Becky Fields Tillery. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren-Andrew James Cox, Sr. (Amanda), Aaron David Cox (Kayla), Samuel Joseph Cox, Andrea Christina Cox (Evan), Ashley Davidson, Meredith Tillery, and Jeremy Fields-and nine cherished great-grandchildren: Cali, Jimmy, Sophie, Ryan, David, and Raeleigh Mae Cox, Jennah and Joscelyn Tillery, and Ava Fields. Her sister Bonnie Collins (Harold), Sister-in-Law Ruby Wilson, Brother-in-Law Glenn Fields, sister-in-law Sharon Fields, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family was Shirley's greatest joy. She relished every moment spent supporting her grandchildren in their sports, theater, art, and dance endeavors. Her loving presence was a constant in their lives.
Shirley's passions brought color and charm to every day. She was a regular bingo winner and favorite among the community at Cedarview in Lebanon, where she resided from 2007 until her passing. She loved crafting, especially creating and wearing her beautiful hats. Her favorite car was her 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, and her favorite color was purple. She had a sweet tooth for her daughter's homemade peach ice cream and the treats lovingly baked by her sister Bonnie.
Those who knew Shirley will remember her generous heart, sharp wit, and unshakable love for her family. She lived her life with grace and purpose and leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and joy.
An intimate graveside service with interment will be held at Woodside Cemetery on June 12, 2025, at 2:30 p.m., with services presented by her grandson, Aaron David Cox.
Following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life gathering will take place at the home of her daughter Bridgette Hudyk and son-in-law Jason Hudyk. We warmly welcome all who are able to stop by and share memories in her honor.
