Shirley dedicated 45 years of her life as an Executive Assistant for Navy-Marine Corp Relief Society–a role she cherished deeply and spoke of with great pride. After retiring, she returned to her family farm in Waldorf, Maryland, a place that she had fond memories of.
A lifelong member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Shirley's faith was a steady foundation throughout her life. In early 2020, she moved to Easley, South Carolina, to be closer to her family.
Shirley was also a proud member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed reading, knitting and sharing stories, especially when they involved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who she adored.
Born to Vivian Warren Adams and Celestia Margaret Jenkins Adams, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Giles.
She is survived by her sister, Constance Adams Schedler, her son, James "Mike" Giles (Janean); her grandchildren, Kristin Giles Miller (Brian) and Adam Giles (Chase); and her great-grandchildren, Austin, Eva, and Hadley. She is also lovingly remembered by numerous extended family members and dear friends.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 11AM until time of service at 12Noon at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
Interment to follow the service at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
