Shirley Hagemann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNutt Funeral Home - Conroe on Dec. 11, 2025.
Shirley Ann Hagemann, cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on November 29, 2025, in Conroe, Texas, at 83. Born in December 1941 to H.B. and Birdie Ward, she grew up in Wichita Falls with her sister, Patsy.
In 1959, Shirley married Jim Hagemann. Still in high school, the two slipped away to elope, beginning a marriage that lasted until Jim's passing in 2014. Together, they raised two daughters, Dayna and Kelly, and built a life filled with memories across Abilene, Odessa, Houston, Dallas, and Central Texas.
Shirley had the heart of an artist, pouring her creativity into everything she touched. She was an expert seamstress and excelled in furniture refinishing, oil painting, and photography. She was also interested in genealogy, meticulously documenting family histories, photographs, and cherished stories. Equally business-minded, she ran a successful antique shop, built a real estate career in Houston, and later operated a coffee shop with Jim. Shirley also cherished life's simple pleasures-a rare tenderloin steak, a full glass of red wine, popping off a joke that could make you blush, and teaching her grandchildren how to play the card game, Hand & Foot.
In her later years, Shirley faced Lewy Body dementia with quiet strength and remarkable grace. Even as challenges from this difficult disease grew, the love she gave as a mother and grandmother remained the steady center of her life. We are profoundly grateful for the gift of her presence-her warmth, her humor, and her unwavering love-and we will miss her more than words can ever convey.
Shirley's love of life continues through her daughters and sons-in-law, Dayna and Lance Riley, and Kelly and Ron Martin; her grandchildren, Matt (Amanda), Morgan (Erik), Casey (Sarah), and Haley; and her great-grandchildren, Miles, Emmie, Cade, and Landon. Each carries a spark of her spirit and a piece of her boundless love and joy.
Shirley never found goodbyes easy, always waving until loved ones were well out of sight. Her family holds that image close as they say their final farewell. Thank you, Mom and Nana, for everything you gave us-for lifting us up and for loving us with a devotion that never wavered.
A private cremation has been held, and no public services are planned. In lieu of services, the family invites those who wish to honor Shirley's memory to consider a contribution to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (https://www.lbda.org/donate/) or to any neurodegenerative disease support organization of their choice.
