Shirley Ann Fontenot Harris, 82, passed away peacefully under Harbor Hospice Care, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 16, 1942, to O’Delia Foreman and Austin Joseph Fontenot in Crowley, Louisiana.
Shirley graduated from Marion High School in 1961 and went on to embrace her passions wholeheartedly. She had a deep love for cooking, finding joy in feeding her family and friends. Her talent for sewing was evident in everything she created, from fancy dresses to clothing and everything else in between. Shopping brought her happiness, as she delighted in finding special items for her loved ones.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Fred C. Harris; her children, Dean Allan Harris (Pam Harris) and Bryan Lee Harris (Krisleigh McAnulty); and her cherished grandchildren, Audrey Harris, Grant Harris, James Harris, Marcus Harris, Nicole Woodruff, Stephen Winkles, Stephanie McFarland, and Jolie Breaux. Shirley also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, Aston Harris, Axel Harris, Cambreigh Woodruff, Sawyer Woodruff, Charles McFarland, Austyn McFarland, Grayson McFarland, Remi Winkles, and Finley Winkles, numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley is preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Lynn Harris; her parents, Austin and O’Delia Fontenot; and her siblings, Clarence Fontenot, Lavina Kowarsch, Helen Cuvillier, Barbara O’Quain, Ina Fredericks, and Murphy Porrie.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Home, located at 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA 70605. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a rosary recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Inurnment will be at Consolata Cemetery, with cremation entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
