Shirley A. Hortman, age 88, of Avon Park, Florida, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2025. She was born February 19, 1937 in Graceville, Florida to William Samuel and Lula Mae (Travis) Tindell. Shirley worked for and retired from Sprint after 25 years and went back to school to become a hairdresser, working for JC Penny for 8 years. She was a member of Florida Avenue Baptist Church and has been a resident of Avon Park, Florida since 1960, coming from Graceville, Florida. She is survived by her Children – Debbie Prescott of Sebring, FL; Helen Robinson (Carl High) of Avon Park, FL; Ricky Bush (Kim) of Okeechobee, FL; Marcia Hortman of Okeechobee, FL; Lynn Daughty of Birmingham, AL; Scott Darnell of Greenville, IN; 10 Grandchildren; and 15 Great Grandchildren. Shirley is preceded in death by her Son – Wade Bush; Son-in-law – Jackie Prescott; Grandson – Jady Prescott; Sisters – Essie Morgan; Mary Watford; Mildred Doughty; Brother – Hugh Tindell; Husbands – James Bush; James Womack; Don Gallimore; and Earl Hortman. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 AM at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home of Avon Park with burial following in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Museum of the Highlands, P.O. Box 1243, Sebring, FL 33871.
