Shirley McCammon, 85, of Robinson, IL, passed away on October 16, 2025, at Richland Nursing and Rehab in Olney, IL.
Born on May 11, 1940, in Palestine, IL, she was the daughter of Jesse McCammon and Janie (Kimberlin) McCammon, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.
Shirley grew up in Palestine, IL, where she developed a strong work ethic and a deep care for others that would guide her throughout her life. In her teenage years, she worked for Schmidt Clinic, sparking a lifelong passion for nursing and helping others.
At the age of 40, Shirley accomplished something remarkable—she earned her Nursing degree. It was a testament to her perseverance, determination, and unwavering heart for serving others. She devoted her career to the field of healthcare, working for seventeen years at Union Hospital, and later serving thirteen years as the Director of Med-Surg at Crawford Memorial Hospital. Her dedication, compassion, and leadership left a lasting mark on both her coworkers and the many patients she cared for over the years.
Outside of work, Shirley enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid NASCAR fan—always cheering for Dale Earnhardt—and loved watching football on Sundays. She had a creative side that came through in her crafting, and she found peace mowing her yard or tinkering outdoors. She loved family trips to Fort Myers Beach, Florida, where she enjoyed her mixed drinks at the Outrigger Beach Resort, soaking up the sun and laughter that always surrounded her there. And every summer, she looked forward to taking her grandchildren to Holiday World—days filled with sunshine, laughter, and friendly competition over countless games of Skee Ball. Those moments, and the memories made there, became some of the family’s most cherished.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Tedford; her grandchildren, Jennifer Tedford and Derek & Jalyne Tedford; her great-grandchildren, Cora Tedford and Breanna Tedford; as well as several nieces and nephews.
