Dear Jennifer, John, Shirley and families,
I am deeply saddened as I know you all are by Granny's death. I've spent more time with her in my adult life than I did with my own mother. I learned so much from her; how to cook a turkey, gravy and make a most unusual dressing, how to fry eggs, and make purloo rice and ham. I also learned that if you can't find something, "we'll just make it" (chartreuse tennis outfit, lots of ruffled curtains, psychedelic baby diapers for Jennifer).
I also learned how to accept a compliment with just a simple"thank you", and how to listen(sometimes to the same things over and over). But most of all, I learned how to laugh.....especially at myself. And that it was OK to cry, if you laughed afterward. We will all have wonderful memories to share with each other, and I know that as Granny would say "you know...what I mean".
Sincerely,
Richmond Times-Dispatch
