Shirley Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCorkle Funeral Home - Rockton on Mar. 31, 2026.
Shirley Faye Miller, affectionately known by her CB handle, "Catfish," was a spirited force of nature, born on October 27, 1933, in Shirland, IL. She was a witty, resilient, and loving soul who brought joy and laughter to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Shirley's remarkable journey began in Shirland, but it was in Rockton, Illinois, where she created a life rich with experiences, friendships, and shared love. Known for her resilience and spirit, Shirley was the epitome of strength and courage, savoring every moment of her 92 years of life.

Shirley's career in manufacturing footwear demonstrated her resilience and commitment. She was a devoted buffer at Freeman Shoe in Beloit, WI, where she received her 20-year award before retiring. But it was outside the constraints of the workday where Shirley truly shone. Her zest for life was infectious. With a heart full of adventure, she embraced every day, whether it was fishing, riding snowmobiles and motorcycles, driving her golf cart, or even her beloved John Deere tractor. Her love for old-time music was as deep as her love for the Thursday afternoon dances she frequented. A simple phrase, "Holy Balls," perfectly encapsulated her delight in the richness of her life.

But what mattered most to Shirley was her family and her pets. She was a beacon of love and support, cherishing every moment she spent with them. Shirley is survived by her sister, Sharon Dwyer; and her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Haas; her numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Miller, her parents Fay and Ella Haas, and her brothers Burdette and Robert Haas.

Shirley's legacy of love, strength, and an unquenchable spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. Please visit Shirley's memorial page, where we encourage you to share your favorite memories or photos of this extraordinary woman. Her story is far from over as it continues in the hearts and minds of those she touched.

A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2026 in McCorkle Funeral Home - Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL with Mark Maxted officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until time of service, Tuesday. Cremation Rites will be Accorded. Final resting place to be Shirland Township Cemetery.
