Shirley V. Oder, a devoted caretaker and beloved member of her community, passed away on March 10, 2026, in Carrollton, Kentucky. Born on January 17, 1937, in Port Royal, Kentucky, Shirley lived a life marked by her compassionate spirit and unwavering commitment to those around her.
Throughout her many years, Shirley dedicated herself to the noble work of caregiving, a testament to her kind and nurturing nature. Those who knew her remember her not only for her professional devotion but also for her personal passions. She had a keen love for refinishing antiques, a skill that reflected her patience and appreciation for beauty. Sewing was another treasured pastime, through which she expressed both creativity and care. Shirley also found great joy and solace in her faith, being a faithful member of the English Christian Church, which held a special place in her heart.
Shirley is survived by her loving son, Tony Wilson of Carrollton, Kentucky, and her cherished grandsons, Caleb and Henry Canine. Her close and enduring friendship with Mary Sue Wilson provided mutual support and warmth throughout the years, a testament to the meaningful connections she fostered beyond family ties.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Elwood Oder, whose memory she held dear; her daughter, Tracy Smith; and her siblings Doris Ogburn, Wanda Bishop, and Larry Tingle, all of whom were beloved parts of her life’s story.
A visitation to honor Shirley’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, located at 809 Highland Avenue in Carrollton, Kentucky. Following this, a funeral service will commence at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.
