Cumberland, MD – Shirley Lee Paxton (Zink), 88 of Cumberland died Saturday, August 27, 2022 in the Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born December 31, 1933 in Cumberland, Shirley was the daughter John Henry and June Pearl Zink, wife of Gerald E. Paxton, mother of Steven E. Paxton and sister to Carol Wilson (Dick) all if whom predeceased her.
Shirley is survived by her brother John H. Zink (Wanda) of Boonsboro and three sons; Gregory A. Paxton (Dianne) of Conway, AR, Thomas L. Paxton of Frostburg and Timothy L. Paxton (Rita Rowan) of Cumberland.
Shirley is lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren; Jody Merkel (Robert), Shannon Peck (Delmes Berry), Cheryl Hughes (James), Lindsey Paxton, Graham Paxton, Zachary Paxton and nine great grandchildren.
Soon after graduating from high school, Shirley married her lifelong partner, Jerry and together, they had 4 boys. Shirley and Jerry (Packie) were the proud owners of Packie's Bakery for over 30 years. Her passion and skill for decorating cakes was on display at some of the most prominent weddings in Cumberland
Shirley enjoyed playing the organ in church and singing in the choir. She also loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. Shirley was all about family. She gave herself unequivocally to Jerry and the boys. Always encouraging, reassuring and loving.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Sandy Cowan officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Lions Center for all the care and compassion given to Shirley.
