Born in West Chester, PA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Harry Winfield Scott Miller and Isabel Hutchinson Miller. She attended Octorara School District and attended the Beacom College of Business in Delaware.
Shirley worked for the CPA firm Thompson Greenspon in Fairfax, VA for nearly 25 years.
Shirley enjoyed sports and was an active tennis player, golfer and bowler. She was a lifelong fan of the Washington Commanders. She loved playing bridge, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. She was a talented knitter and a seamstress.
Shirley will be remembered for her love of life and her kindness. She found joy in everyday life. She had a warm friendly smile for anyone she saw.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Ryman, daughter, Robyn Lynn Ryman and her cherished dogs, Teddi and Maggie Moo, and her sisters, Norma Jane Irwin and Barbara Sue Miller.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lisa Dana Kaplan, Son-In-Law, Jeffrey Mark Kaplan, Granddaughter, Molly Robyn Kaplan, Grandson, Mark Robert Kaplan, Granddog, Benny Boo, Brothers, Ronald Miller and Richard Miller and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will take place at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032 on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Fairfax Memorial Cemetery at 2pm. A celebration of life at PJ Skidoos at 3pm, 9908 Fairfax Boulevard, Fairfax, VA 22030. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ASPCA. www.ASPCA.com/donations
