Shirley S. Search, born on January 31, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025. She was the cherished daughter of the late Nicholas and Margaret Smargiassi and the beloved wife of her late husband, John E. Search, Jr., with whom she shared 46 wonderful years of marriage.
Shirley's career as a Medical Office Manager spanned over five decades and brought her much joy. After raising her children to school age, she dedicated her time and talents to overseeing numerous offices with several physicians from 1968-2020. Her work life was characterized by her strong will and loyalty, as she enjoyed conversing with both staff and patients, making a meaningful impact in their lives.
Educated at Friend's Select School in Philadelphia, Shirley carried her vivacious spirit throughout her life. Known for her bubbly personality, she truly embraced every moment, from her morning aerobics to her fondness for reading books and indulging in chocolates of all kinds. She had an undeniable passion for shopping, especially at Boscov's and was always ready for trips to Las Vegas where she delighted in playing slots and relishing the spectacle of seeing Elvis.
Shirley took immense joy in her family’s activities, cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at every event she attended. She held dear the memories of New Year’s celebrations and watching the Mummers Parade from her Aunt's Broad Street home, occasions that highlighted her love for her family and tradition.
Although not a regular churchgoer, Shirley was a firm believer in the Lord and engaged in daily prayers, finding comfort in her faith. Her kitchen prowess may have been challenged, but her affection for family was unshakeable.
She is survived by her loving children, John Search (Debra), Robin Search, and Laurie Smith (Gary), along with her cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Grayson, who will continue to remember her fondly.
Relatives and friends are invited to Shirley’s Viewing on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at The Knoetgen-Donohue Funeral Home, 746 Kedron Ave, Morton, PA 19070. Interment at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall, PA.
Her legacy of love, strength, and vibrant spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
