Shirley Temple Smith was born on October 30, 1937, in Hazelhurst, Georgia, to the late Richard and Nora Ruth Hurst. On May 3, 1952, she was united in marriage to her beloved husband, the late Charles Smith. From this loving union, six children were born: Maggie, Charles, Curtis, Henry, Beverly, and Gail.

She was employed as an assembly line worker with Senese Manufacturer and Coastal Tools and Abrasive before retiring to devote her time and care to her grandchildren.

Affectionately known as "Mother Smith" or "Temple," she will be fondly remembered and deeply missed for her quick wit, unconditional love, and unwavering faith.

She was a faithful virtual member of Calvary Temple Christian Center where she served on the Mothers board. Mother Smith often declared that she carried God wherever she went-and her life reflected that truth.

She enjoyed life and loved having a good time, especially playing bingo with friends, shopping, and spending cherished moments with her loved ones. You would often hear her laughing while watching her favorite shows, Let's Make a Deal, The Price is Right, and The Big Bang Theory.

Most importantly, her life was rooted in daily devotion through scripture and prayer. She was a woman of faith who loved the Lord.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Smith; her daughter, Maggie Collins, and her sons, Henry Lee Smith and Charles Smith Jr.

Survivors include her son, Curtis Smith Sr., her daughter, Beverly Mack, and her daughter Gail (Mark) McGraw. Her siblings, Janice Hurst; Ada Mae Bell; Donell Hurst; Robert Hurst; Jill Hamilton; and Angelia Peterson. Her grandchildren; Curtis (Sherly) Smith Jr; Brandon Pullins; Katina Smith; Melanie Williams; Terrance (Leandra) Mack; Mitzi Pullins; LaQuita Wilson; Kevin Wilson; Loreal Smith; Tyre Mack; Pulark Smith; Rochelle Smith; Tyler Mack; Goetti Francois; and 23 great-grandchildren. Her bonus sisters; Charlotte Cuffee, Pearl Swilling, and Olive Wilson; her bonus daughters; Melanie Griffin and Regina Saddler; and her godchildren, Marquintala Cuffee and Mark Freeman.

. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 11a.m at Calvary Temple Christian Center, 319 Barnum Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut. Family and friends may view at the church at 10 a.m until time of service. Interment will be held in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, Connecticut.
