Shirley Stewart Parrish Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parrish Funeral Home - Selma on Jan. 31, 2025.
Shirley Parrish, age 88, of Smithfield, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Smithfield Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born September 19, 1936, in Smithfield, she was the daughter of Jasper Stewart and Mary Evans Stewart. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Gray Parrish; brothers, Ernest Stewart, Bobby Stewart, Sherwood Stewart, and Roy Stewart Sr; and sisters, Edna Stewart Allen and Eloise Stewart Stephenson.
Shirley worked as a pharmaceutical assistant for various pharmacies in Johnston County until her retirement, including Smithfield Pharmacy, Fleming Pharmacy, and Upchurch Pharmacy. She was a loving mother and wife who always put her family first.
Shirley was the family caretaker and mama, ensuring everyone's needs were fulfilled. She had a great sense of humor and was very silly. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Shirley is survived by her son, Stephen Parrish of Smithfield; brother, Ervin Stewart (Wanda); sister, Barbara Stewart West, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honor Shirley's life will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 2:00pm, in the Chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Burial will follow at the Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery. Flowers are appreciated.

Aunt Shirley, I know this is late but I been going through a lot. Steve is doing good but I know he misses you. He was very diligent in visiting you at the Nursing home and we even went once with Milo. I miss you, we all do.
You always put family first and made sure everyone was taken care of. We had some good times together and I was happy to see you at my wedding in 2006. I remember you always dressed up when you had to go to the doctor or a special event. At my wedding you wore a purple skirt and jacket and white blouse. Purple is the color of royalty and you were royalty to me.
I had a stroke in February and am slowly recuperating. I was at your funeral in Daddy's electric wheelchair and I saw you briefly because I wanted to remember you the way that I knew you best. You could be silly at times but that's good that you had a great sense of humor because I remember that about you. I love you and I know that you are among family in Heaven with God the Father and Jesus and y'all are catching up. We'll see you again one day. Hugs, prayers and kisses for you and Steve. You are missed dearly.
