Ms. Shirley "Tocie" Thomas, 74, of
Newnan, GA, formerly of
West Point, GA, transitioned on December 30, 2025, at Newnan Health and Rehabilitation,
Newnan, GA.
Funeral Services for Ms. Shirley "Tocie" Thomas will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. ET in the sanctuary of the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1516 44th Avenue, SW,
Lanett, Alabama, with Pastor C.W. Atkinson, Presiding, and Pastor A. Dale Turner, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 2:00 until 6:00 p..m. ET at the mortuary.
Shirley Thomas, the daughter of the late Bessie Moss Woods and the late Early D. Maddox, was born June 29, 1951 in Hamilton, Harris County, GA. She entered into eternal on December 30, 2025 at the Newnan Health and Rehab Center,
Newnan, Georgia.
"Tocie", as she was affectionately known, was a woman whose presence brought life and laughter to every occasion. Known for her candid spirit-whatever came up, came out-she spoke with honesty and warmth and was deeply loved by all who knew her.
At an early age, she married Amos Jackson and united with the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church,
Lanett, Alabama, where her faith journey began.
Throughout her working years, she was employed for many years at West Point Pepperell before later serving with dedication at the Troup County Sheriff's Department and Twin Cedars Youth and Family Service. Tocie never met a stranger and always had a word to share, leaving lasting impressions wherever she went.
Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Nicholas Amos Jackson; her grandson, Jamarcus Ronyaa Jackson; mother, Bessie Woods; stepfather, Jesse Woods; father, Early D. Maddox; her sisters, Bobbie Ann Parker, Rebecca Whitehead, Gloria Moody, and Carrie Bell Brewer-Staples; brothers, Howard Thomas and Willie Roy Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her son, Keith Jackson; her daughter, Phyllis Jackson-Florence; son-in-law, Samuel Florence; grandchildren, Alyssia Kendrea Jackson, Donte Gilbert, Takevan Jackson; great-grandchildren Taneria Jackson and Creed McCray; sister, Jacqueline (Tony) Lattimore; brothers, George(Sharmaine) Thomas, and Robert Maddox; special cousins, Katie Martin, Mary Harris and Estelle Moss and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
