Shirley Joan Thompson, 87, of Burlington died Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born Nov. 13, 1936, in Colesburg, she was the daughter of Chance and Bethel Ann Barclay Brown. On Sept. 15, 1956, she married Dallam Gilbert in Colesburg. He died on April 12, 2024.
She graduated from Colesburg High in 1955. Shirley was a homemaker. She moved to Sun City West, Arizona, in 1999, and later moved back to Burlington in 2018.
She enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Burlington Golf Club, Baiarwood Country Club in Sun City West, Arizona, and First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, David D. (Donna) Thompson of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Michael J. (Teresa) Thompson of Galesburg, Illinois; four grandchildren, David C. (Jess), Taylor (Vince), Coby, and Jaclyn (Jason); and three great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Rylee, and Connor; and one brother, Michael (Karen) Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Besides her husband of 67 years, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
A private family burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for First Presbyterian Church and University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.

So sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. She was a grand lady always full of smiles and good will. She is missed and will be missed for all time. Wonderful memories to the Thompson family!
