Shirley Brewer Via, 92, of Leonardtown, Maryland passed away on July 2, 2025 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Leonardtown, MD with her loving family at her side.
She was born on August 2, 1932 in Blytheville, AK to the late Frank Brewer and Aileen Bartley.
Shirley is a graduate of Washington & Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia. On March 28, 1953 she married the love of her life, Alvin Francis Via. Together they celebrated over 56 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in August 2009. Shirley was employed by the Department of Defense as a secretary for the United States Air Force until her retirement in 1987. Her hobbies included playing cards and she took pride in keeping her house always looking nice. She enjoyed decorating and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved animals, especially cats.
Shirley is survived by her children, Steven A. Via (Judy) of Manassas, VA and Kimberley V. McEligot (Kim) of Leonardtown, MD, sister Allison Wocjik of Sterling, VA; grandchildren: Ashley Via McElwain (Brian), Trevor Via (Brianna), Kevin McEligot (Marissa), Christopher McEligot, and Colin McEligot; great-grandchildren: Morgan McElwain, Lila Via, Boone Via, Cole Via, and Hadley McEligot; as well as extended family and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
