Shirley Weston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 23, 2021.
Avid reader and retired school teacher Shirley Ann Weston passed away at the age of 74 on December 14, 2021 in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Her passing was unexpected but peaceful.

Shirley was born in Urania, Louisiana and raised in Alvin, Texas. After graduating high school, Shirley took college courses and worked at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Her employment there coincided with the Apollo 13 space mission. Wanting to spread her wings, she later joined the U.S. Air Force. During her time in the Air Force, she worked in the White House Communications Agency, at the White House, where she met her husband of more than 41 years, John David Weston. After completing her military service, Shirley and John made their home in Tallahassee, Florida, where Shirley completed her bachelor's degree in education at Florida State University. Shirley spent most of her long teaching career teaching at R. Frank Nims Middle School.

Shirley will be remembered for her loving and giving spirit. She was a voracious reader. She was of Methodist faith and had continued to attend virtual services of John Wesley United Methodist Church after her move to Ohio. Shirley loved old-school country music, Westerns, true-crime shows, FSU football, hiking, camping, and attending professional golf tournaments with John and their daughter Leslie.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Leslie Claire Weston of Cleveland, Ohio, and her sister Jan Beasley Powell of Alvin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband John David Weston, her brother James Brown Beasley, and her parents Gerald Eugene and Myrtle Lucille Beasley.

A memorial service honoring Shirley's life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 1689 Old St. Augustine Rd., Tallahassee, FL 32301.

I will miss my dear friend. We had many adventures together. How I wish I could have just one more hour to chat with her. May she rest in peace.

Leslie, I'm so sorry for you, but I was so glad to know your mother. She was a kind, smart and insightful woman, and she also showed how much she loved you and your father. She also let us know what a great daughter you were. She always greeted me in the John Wesley UMC online services, and was a fixture in Sunday School. What a wonderful lady!

Shirley was such a fun person to be around! She had a love for life. I worked with her for many years, but it wasn´t until after her retirement that I got the opportunity to really get the chance to spend time with her and truly get to learn this about her. Above all I learned her love for her daughter, Leslie. She had a love for education and that along with the love she spread through each child she has touched throughout the years gives me great comfort that her spirit will continue to live on!

I have many fond memories of Shirley at W.T. Moore Elementary school. Leslie, she often spoke lovingly of you. I know she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
