Shirley Kay (Williams) Gouty, age 81 of Covington, IN passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Franciscan Health in Lafayette.

 

Shirley was born on September 9, 1942 in Attica, IN. She was the daughter of Raymond Edward and Alice Josephine (Peterson) Williams. Shirley was the first graduating class of Seeger High School in 1960. Before moving to Covington in 1970, she had lived in Attica, IN, South Carolina, Shipshewana, IN, and West Lebanon, IN. Shirley married Keith V. Gouty on November 11, 1962 in West Lebanon, IN and he preceded her in death on February 23, 2007.

 

Later in life, Shirley was blessed to have Donald Fredrick “Fred” White as her companion. Fred and his family were accepting, loving, welcoming, and dedicated the next twelve plus years building relationships and caring for and creating memories.

 

Shirley worked as a waitress for 25 years. She then became a pharmacy technician and worked for Jack Boyle at the Covington Pharmacy until its closure in 1988. Shirley then worked as a pharmacy tech at Provena Hospital (later OSF) from 1989 until her retirement in 2004.

 

Shirley was a member of the Stringtown Church of God. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and made the best fried chicken, chicken and noodles, and chocolate chip cookies. Shirley enjoyed word search puzzles and loved her dog Pugsy. Above everything, she was a loving mom, grandma, and great-grandma who enjoyed spending time with her family.

 

Surviving are:

2 children, Tina Drummond (Randy) of Covington, IN and Brian Gouty (Aiskel) of Bluffton, South Carolina;

3 siblings, Carolyn Weston of West Lebanon, IN, Sarah Lincicum (Mike) of Williamsport, IN, and Richard Williams (Janie) of Clermont, FL;

4 grandchildren, Eric Drummond (Michelle) of Covington, IN, Travis Drummond of Lavonia, MI, Hunter Gouty (Mackenzie) of Dawsonville, GA, and Samantha Gouty of Bluffton, SC;

6 great-grandchildren, Amber Drummond, Keith Drummond, Lillian Kay Drummond, Ashlynn Vedder, Grayson Vedder, and Westin Vedder

 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Keith; companion Fred; brother Roland Williams; and brother-in-law Larry Weston.

 

Visitation will be on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Stringtown Church of God, 2390 S Stringtown Rd, Covington, IN from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Stringtown Church of God on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Keith Klaussner officiating. Interment will follow at Lower Mound Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Stringtown Church of God.
