Shirley was united in marriage to Richard Wolter on March 17, 1962 in Hokah, Minn. The couple were blessed with 3 daughters: Donna, Debbie, and Denise. They made their home in Osage, Iowa. After retiring, they then moved to Belmond, Iowa to be close to her younger sister, Rozie.

Shirley was born the second to oldest of 14 children, with her being the oldest girl, she grew up cooking for and tending to her younger brothers and sisters which built a lifetime bond that could never be broken. She adored them all and they did as well.

With her love of children, she was known to take any child under her wing throughout her years and love them all. She was a stay at home mom for several years. After her girls all were in school, she began working full time as a housekeeper at Fox River Mills in Osage. After around 25 years she moved on to working as a housekeeper at Good Shephard nursing home in Mason City for another 25 years. Retired from full time work at the age of 75. But continued to work at House of Treasures in Belmond part time for her sister Rozie.

Shirley was known for being spunky with a silly contagious laugh, and wiggle in her chair to country music. She taught many that speed limits are just a suggestion, Stop signs are yield signs to on coming traffic, and nobody should be hungry at any time of the day. In her spare time she had the love of crossword puzzles, Yahtzee, bingo, and always collecting small trinkets.

When facebook became available to her it became a very important part of her day, she spent most of her day looking at family members and what everyone was going on in their lives.

Shirley is survived by her daughters; Donna (Mike), Debbie (Todd), and Denise (Shawn), Grandchildren; Keith (Daniele), Nicole (Ian), Cory (Tiffany), Dustin (Kayla), Rick (Emily), Alex (Bethanie), Christopher (Demi), Brandon (Karlie), Brad (Stephanie), and Dawn.
