Our beloved Shyrlene Gaines Chiles, gained her wings on May 2, 2025, at the age of 73 in Chicago, IL.
Born on December 12, 1951, in the Bronx, NY, to the late Alfred Sr. and Muriel Richardson. Shyrlene grew up in a bustling household alongside her siblings, Nadine, Terrence, and Alfred Jr (Tubo).
Her life was further enriched by her marriages to the late John Gaines and Mario Chiles. Shyrlene was a devoted mother to Nyree (Dominic son in law) and the late James (Jay). Her love multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren Taireek, Shaquan (Urudha), T'raay, Maliek, Jalen, and her great-grandchildren Nasir & Leilani. She also grew a love for her bonus daughter Tatiana and bonus granddaughter Pride.
Shyrlene's nieces Chantal and Adria, along with a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends, also held a special place in her heart. She was a relational lighthouse, guiding and uplifting all who were fortunate enough to be part of her family circle.
Shyrlene's zest for life was palpable. She had an infectious sense of humor, a heart brimming with love, and an adventurous spirit. She was often found on the dance floor, moving with grace and energy that belied her years. Her laughter was a melody that resonated with all who knew her, and her presence was a comfort and a joy.
In remembering Shyrlene, one cannot help but think of the words of Maya Angelou: "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Shyrlene made everyone feel seen, heard, and loved.
As we say farewell, we take solace in knowing that her dance continues in the hearts of those she loved.
