Sidney Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chas. Verheyden, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Detroit on Dec. 27, 2024.
Sidney Eulas Davis II, was born on September 5, 1970, in Fairfield, California, and passed away on December 26, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan. As a small child, he moved with his parents to Michigan, where he remained throughout his lifetime. Sidney attended Cooley High School and Ferris State College.
Though physical challenges placed upon him as a small child, due to injuries sustained from a car accident, may have seemed daunting to those who knew and loved him, Sidney faced them with acceptance and determination. He was a man who exemplified love, kindness and compassion.
As a devout Catholic, he served at the Solanus Center in the Capuchin Franciscan Order. He was elected to the Solanus Catholic Council. His victorious life was a testament to his Christian beliefs, commitment and service.
Eileen Smith, Sidney's fellow pastor, was like a second mother to him. She felt like he was her little brother and she was a blessing in the lives of Sidney's family as well.
Sally McEuen, Hospitality Coordinator at the Solanus Casey Center and his godmother, had this to say about Sidney in her article, "Bloom Where You're Planted:"
"Bloom Where You're Planted" was a Reverend Carey Landry song often played at Mass in the late 1970s. Recently, the wisdom conveyed in that title popped up in a conversation I had with one of our regular visitors at the Solanus Casey Center.
"Live the way I was designed," Sidney said as a summary to his life's philosophy. Sidney Davis comes to the Center to pray most days. As a victim of an auto accident when he was a toddler, Sidney struggles with physical challenges along the right side of his body. One might think that Sidney would be bitter about the current design of his body, but after talking with him, one would know that is furthest from the truth. Many job opportunities are not an option for Sidney, yet he has found a spectacular way to find meaning and purpose in his life. He is a prayer warrior. Many people see Sidney in the chapel and approach him with requests for his prayers. He quietly nods and takes their requests. His strength is a deep prayer life and faith in God. He plays to his strengths.
Sidney is survived by his father Sidney Davis (Krista), mother Daya (Gillard) Kujansuu (Glenn), Brother Afiba Davis (Tikeashia), Sister Yolanda Carson (Lamar), Grandmother Clemestine McLilley, dear friend and fellow pastor Eileen Smith, Godmother Sally McCuen, and other family and friends.
"He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son." Revelation 21:7.

He went by "Peanut" in the neighborhood. Such an intelligent and kind person. I´ll never forget the way his face lit up with excitement when he was teaching me things. He was one of my favorite customers at the health and wellness store. Prayers for all his family, as I know how cherished and missed he will be.

I will remember seeing you at the Altar of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Chapel at St.Bonaventure. You were always caught up in ecstasy when you prayed & Jesus spoke to your HEART! As a Lay Franciscan, you lived the Life to Gospel & Gospel to Life & spoke God's word to everyone you met!
Sidney, you totally embraced the CROSS of Jesus Christ, like St.Francis of Assisi did & just like Blessed Solanus Casey, you listened to others & prayed for them. I will miss you.....until we meet again, my Brother in Christ Jesus. May the Angel's welcome you into Paradise & May the Martyers greet you on your way, May you see the Face of the Lord this day. Allelluia! Allelluia!
Eternal Rest Grant unto Sidney, O Lord & let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him. May his SOUL & all the SOULS of the Faithful Departed, through the MERCY of GOD, REST IN PEACE. AMEN

Sidney graciously shared his lunch table with me one crowded day in the cafe and we hit it off like old friends. His friendly, welcoming, outgoing charm will be very much missed in the cafe. We shared several lunches there after the first; I am sorry there will be no more. Godspeed, Sidney!
