Sidney Dawson Obituary

Scotia- Sidney "JD" Dawson passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, in Scotia, NY. Born on December 20, 1943, in Schenectady, NY, JD's journey through life was marked by adventure, courage, and an unwavering passion for the things he loved. He was 81 years old. JD was a lifelong resident of the area he so cherished, a place where his roots ran deep and his legacy now continues. His pride in his heritage was evident to all who knew him, particularly in his joy for the street named after his beloved family, Dawson Road. His adventurous spirit was matched by his courageous heart, traits that led him to a life filled with excitement and fulfillment. An avid motorcyclist, JD's love for the roar of an engine and the thrill of the ride was a constant throughout his life. He was a regular at the Harley Rendevous and reveled in the camaraderie of Daytona Bike Week every year. His passion for speed extended to NASCAR and driving fast, pursuits that mirrored his daredevil nature. JD was also an accomplished boxer, having received his "Golden Gloves" a testament to his skill and determination in the ring. Professionally, JD was as versatile as he was in his hobbies. He was known as a truck driver and a jack of all trades. In his earlier years he worked as a barber and at GE. His hands were skilled, his work ethic strong, and his ability to connect with people through his various trades was a gift that he shared generously. Beyond his love for adrenaline-fueled activities, JD was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, never missing a game and always ready to cheer on his team. At home, his softer side shone through in his love for his cat, Cha, who was a constant companion and source of comfort. He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Dawson; son, Jason Hartmn; step- daughter, Casandra Rapisarda and her partner, Brent Galucia; grandchildren, Gerald Dawson, Jr, Arianna Coones, Talia Hartman, great-niece Nicole Hartman; long-time companion, JoAnn Camino ; Mel Crane, who was like a son to JD and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends. JD was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney "Stryker" and Edna Dawson; sons, Glen Dawson and Gerald Dawson, Sr.; granddaughter, Sarah Dawson; sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Bill Boice and sister and brother-in-law, Maureen and Skip Hartman. As we reflect on the life of Sidney "JD" Dawson, we do not mourn a life that was lost, but rather celebrate a life that was incredibly well-lived. His stories, his laughter, and his indomitable spirit will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A Memorial Mass will take place in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made in JD's memory to the ASPCA, https://secure.ASPCA.org/donate/ps-gn-p1?linked=.
