Silas Charles Anderson

Silas Charles Anderson of Edwardsburg, Michigan passed away on March 6, 2026 at the hopeful age of 12. He had just finished cleaning the mud off his boots in anticipation of spending the evening riding dirt bikes with his friends when a tornado tragically took his life.

Silas was welcomed into the world on January 20, 2014 to a family who loved him dearly. Silas is survived by his parents, Lindsey and Taite, his older sister, Elly, and his younger brother, Micah. Silas was a beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew, and his family extended far beyond his blood relatives including the many people he loved and was loved by. He was preceded in death by his Grandpa Chuck and Grandpa Bill. Silas commented on how cool the wind looked moments before his death; we hope he saw heaven open and the arms of Love ready to play and delight him. His soul now knows the answers to questions humanity has been asking since the beginning of our days.

This is our humble attempt to share his short life through words. It feels utterly overwhelming to adequately describe the life of such a beautiful boy with so much living left to do. Silas was strong. Steady. Brilliantly smart. Sweet. Adventurous. Confident. Loyal. Silly. Strong-willed (he came by that honestly). With a witty sense of humor and endless pursuit of fun, Silas thrived in community and connection with his close friends and family. His tender heart and calm, steady presence were palpable. His eyes were the most beautiful blue, but if you asked him, he would proudly say his eyes were a unique blend of green, blue, and brown. And his eyelashes were so beautifully long they touched his glasses. It was no secret he was looking forward to being taller than his mom and sister soon; we all knew he was sure to be taller than dad someday, he just didn't flaunt that yet. It seemed he had always grown too tall for his new pants.

From a young age, Silas was fascinated with wheels. Starting as a love of strollers, trains, tricycles, bicycles, scooters, EZ rollers, and gators, his fascination progressed through the years into a love of dirt bikes, ATVs, side-by-sides, and electric scooters. Anything with wheels and power. Silas enjoyed countless rides with his buddies. He was looking forward to so many more. The most common question he asked in the past year was, "Can I go ride?!" Even taking the trash bins to the road brought him joy, pulling them behind him on a quad, one hand on the bin, one on the throttle.

Everything Silas loved was always enjoyed in relationship with others. He loved remote control cars, boats, planes, and drones. He surely would have been a great pilot one day if given the chance to pursue his dreams. Like many twelve-year-old boys, gaming with his friends brought him joy at all hours of the day and night. An entire bag of Trader Joe's breadsticks dominated the snack bag he packed for any trip. Some of his other favorite foods were Traverse City Cherry Fudge ice cream, TruFru Strawberries, Root Beer, Nerds Gummy Clusters, his Dad's steak, his Grandma's cheesy potatoes, and definitely his Mom's apple pie.

Soccer and basketball were his two main sports so far in life, and he was really looking forward to trying track this spring. He loved snow skiing and ski trips with his family. He was in the stage of life where he couldn't walk through a doorway or beneath a low ceiling without jumping and touching it. What a delight to witness him marking the new heights all over with his handprints.

Silas loved his family fiercely. They cherished time together playing on beaches and boats from Lake Michigan to the British Virgin Islands. He loved to sail, swim, snorkel, scuba dive, and jet surf. During most beach sunsets, Silas and their yellow lab, Maisie, would be getting energy out playing ball. The twelve years of life Silas enjoyed were full of adventures both near and far. He traveled with his family to Hawaii, Sweden, Norway, British Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Grand Canyon, New York City, Steamboat Springs, Copper Mountain, and so many places between.

The family requests in lieu of flowers you consider donating to local organizations important to Silas, such as South Bend City Church, Michiana Family Center, the Edwardsburg Sports Complex, and Edwardsburg Public Schools.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at South Bend City Church (The Tribune) 226 N. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, Indiana 46601. Funeral will immediately follow at the church. Silas never found the discomfort of dress clothes to be warranted, so please dress in clothes that make you feel comfortable. If you have a pair of Jordans, we are sure Silas would love for you to wear them.

The Anderson family is immensely grateful for the love and support poured into us by our friends, family, and the entire community. Like the windows in our home, our hearts are shattered into a million little pieces. Thank you for holding us together with your hands, hearts, prayers, and presence.

Oh, and one last thing. Silas was the best hugger. If you ever had the privilege of being hugged by him, you know how much love, heart, and warmth he shared through his embrace. Please share a hug with someone in honor of Silas.
