I had the pleasure of meeting Florence and Garrett over 30 years ago, as their food server. I have been blessed with their friendship, and wish them and their family
all of God´s grace!

I remember Silas from the first day he reported aboard USS Oriskany We shared a small corner in the junior officer´s bunk room. Many years ago I tried to contact him but was unable to find an email address, phone # or any other way to communicate. So many things I wanted to say after much reflection on our short time together. Dignity, self confidence, his poise impressed me then. Regretfully there were officers who disdained integration and were outwardly unfriendly. While he was somewhat guarded and reticent-understandably--I could have and should have more done more to befriend him. I wished to follow our mutual experiences, what ensued for us as our lives began to unfold during and after Active Duty. I would like to communicate with any family members who would be willing to talk. With respect and admiration for Silas.

Karen and Leslie: So sorry for your loss; it sounds like he was quite a man.
