Obituary published on Legacy.com by Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home and Cemetery from Dec. 31, 2025 to Jan. 14, 2026.
Silvey Louise Ford, age 92, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday morning, December 30, 2025, peacefully from her home-the place she wanted to remain until the Lord called her heavenly home. Today she is in Heaven with her Savior and walking hand in hand with her beloved husband. She has joined many loved ones who have gone before her.
A homecoming celebration will be held at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Funeral Home 12:30pm, Monday, January 5, 2026. Reverend Roger Butler will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11 until time of service. Burial will take place at Forrest Cemetery. There will be no graveside service.
Silvey is preceded in death by her precious husband of 48 years, Cecil R. Ford; her newborn son, Donald R. Ford; her parents, Owen and Connie Hooks; brother, Cain Dewitt Hooks; and sister, Barabara Ann Haney.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald F. (Debra) Ford and Ricky W. (Teddi) Ford; grandchildren, Buffi A. (Anthony) Stokes, Boki L. (Brian) Burke, Buddy W. (Nienna) Ford; great-grandsons, Porter A. Stokes, Hunter K. Burke, Prater A. Stokes, and Phoenix R. Ford; sister, Catherine Milam; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Her great-grandsons had a special pet name for Silvey; "Hotdog", because every time she saw one of them, she would say, "Hotdog! Come see me a minute."
Silvey was raised on Malone Street along with her siblings during the years immediately following the Great Depression.
She never felt deprived, as the family always managed to get by. She helped in the little mom-and-pop grocery store when she could, contributing to the family effort. Silvey was always a helper.
Silvey married at the young age of 15 in Rising Fawn, Georgia. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at a very young age and lived her life helping her family and others. Less than a month ago someone asked her about marrying at such an early age. She still had enough of her signature spark to utter, "It wasn't a have to."
She attended Gadsden High School but chose to raise a family as her life-long calling. A job well done.
Silvey was an instrumental in the early days of Grace Baptist Church on Malone Street. She made sure we were in church every Sunday and if we acted up, we knew what would happen when we got home. She and Dad were a big part of the church for many years.
Silvey worked at Rutenburg's Guarantee Shoe store for many years; ensuring my brother and I always had good shoes. (It wasn't until many years after she retired that we realized she herself, as a child often only had good shoes in the winter.) Later, to keep her mind busy, she worked at Martin's Clothing until it became too much for her. She then began attending Welcome Baptist Church in Piedmont, Alabama. Eventually she settled in to staying home but she continued driving anywhere she wanted until right before she turned 91. She kept her fiery spirit until the end.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Stokes, Brian Burke, Buddy Ford, Porter Stokes, Hunter Burke, Prater Stokes, and Phoenix Ford.
The family will forever be grateful to her caregiver, Leslie Kirkpatrick. Without her, allowing Mom to pass at home would have been impossible. Her care and kindness was immeasurable. She will be forever loved by all of us.
Special thanks to her close neighbors, Ricky and Shana Massey- thank you for all your help over the years; thanks to all the neighbors who watched over her. Also, a special thanks to her longtime friend, Travis Causey. Momma always made two biscuits in the morning, when asked why, she would say "Just in case somebody stopped by and wanted one." Thanks also to Eddie Ray at her homecoming celebration. The Ray family always had a special place in Momma's heart.
