Silvio Vespa, age 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 22, 2025 in Newton Center, Massachusetts.

Born on September 18, 1935 in Capestrano, L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy to Nicola & Maddalena Vespa (Trolla), Silvio immigrated to the United States in 1956. He settled in Newton Center, MA where he met the love of his life, Andrea Vespa (DeAmicis). They married in 1960, and together, they had three children and three grandchildren. They built a strong family unit based in love and compassion. Silvio lived with his wife Andrea, daughter Rosemarie, and granddaughter Madison.

Silvio was selfless, and worked tirelessly to provide for and show up for his family and friends. He worked at Charles Contracting in Watertown, MA for over 60 years, rarely ever seen without his signature Red Sox cap. "The Yard" was a second home to him, so much so that he retired in 2017 at the age of 82. Silvio, or "Papa" to his grandchildren, and "Uncle Silvio" to the rest of the family, was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and community member. He supported his family's dreams wholeheartedly, and gave without ever asking for anything in return. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, and took every opportunity to share his joy about their achievements with friends and family. He loved spending time with his family, and especially looked forward to the fall months, where he would carry the kids on his shoulders while apple picking, and prepare the turkey on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving, otherwise known as "Uncle Silvio's holiday," featured his favorite moment: taking the annual turkey picture with the kids. Silvio was a proud member of the Laborers' Union Local 560 and the Italian Benevolent Society Filippo Corsi, and a proud Italian-American.

In addition to his generosity and big heart, Silvio was defined by his love of music. He owned countless records, CDs, and cassettes of his favorite Italian songs, and he never hesitated to sing along. His rich voice carried every tune with ease. He loved cracking jokes and getting a laugh out of those around him. He was unbelievably smart and was lovingly referred to as a human calculator by all who knew him. An avid Boston sports fan, Silvio was always watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, or Celtics, and never missed out on rooting for Team Italia in the World Cup or Olympics from the comfort of his recliner.

Silvio walked through the world treating all people with respect and kindness, and set a strong and powerful example for his family. He left a profound impact on all who knew and loved him.

Silvio is survived by his wife of 65 years Andrea Vespa, their daughter Rosemarie Vespa, son Anthony Vespa, grandchildren Madison Vespa, Patrick Vespa, and Isabella Vespa, and caring friends June Lomer & Philip Gallagher. He is also survived by his brother Remo Vespa and wife Luigia, their children Nick & Kelly Vespa and Maria Apse (Vespa) & Jeff Dinardo, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends.

Silvio is predeceased by his daughter Madeline Vespa.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 30, from 3:00pm-7:00pm at Andrew J. Magni & Son Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St, Newton, MA. His funeral service will be held on Monday, December 1, at 11AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Newton Cemetery. Family, friends, and all who knew Silvio are invited to attend.
