Mr. Sing Slun Chin, CD, born on August 22, 1947, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted father, proud grandfather, visionary businessman, and cherished friend whose kindness and strength touched countless lives.
Mr. Chin was a true pioneer in Jamaica's retail and distribution sector. Under his leadership, the Super Valu Group of Companies and Progressive Grocers of Jamaica Limited became cornerstones of the nation's food supply, pharmaceutical, and hardware sectors. This variety of commerce provided livelihoods for many and setting a high standard for innovation, efficiency, and corporate responsibility.
Beyond his business achievements, Mr. Chin will be remembered for his generous spirit and his unwavering commitment to national service. During the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl last year, he worked tirelessly to assist with relief efforts, ensuring that essential supplies reached those most affected. His compassion and readiness to serve embodied the very best of the Jamaican
spirit.
Mr. Chin was awarded the Jamaica Order of Distinction, Commander Class (CD), in 2023 for his contributions to the Business and Economic Development of Jamaica.
He is survived by his four children - Michelle (Ernie), Craig (Terry), Stacy (Alec), and Nicholas (Lily) - and seven beloved grandchildren: Annalisa, Gabriella, Julian, Courtney, Sebastian, Emily, and Mila. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he took immense pleasure in watching them grow, always offering guidance, support, and unconditional love.
Mr. Chin will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, and dedication to both his family and his country. His legacy of leadership, service, and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
