Slide Hampton

So very sad! A claim to fame. Shared the stage soloing/playing with Slide, plus dinner with him, too when I was lead trombone player at the State University of NY at Binghamton, Slide our guest soloist Spring of 1983. Just an absolutely world class musician and just the nicest individual! Still play and listen to/talk about Slide all the time. Just the best, my sincerest condolences and will be so greatly missed as a musician and person!

I am so sorry about the loss of Slide. His contribution to jazz music will always be remembered. My condolences are with the Hampton family. I met Slide in 1970 in Munich. We worked together many times in Europe. He was a great trombonist, arranger and composer as well as an inspiration to all who knew him. I am proud to say that he was a friend. He was truly one of the greats of our generation. RIP Slide.
