Sohair Faltas Obituary

Our beloved mother, Sohair Faltas, our "Little Lion," joined the angels on March 6, 2025. Her quiet strength, unwavering faith, and indomitable spirit shaped us profoundly. She was a steady light, a fierce protector, and a heart that never stopped loving.

Born in Assiut, Upper Egypt, Sohair's name, meaning "the observant one," reflected her gift for listening and making others feel seen. A spiritual seeker with a heart for God, she prioritized cultivating a radiant inner life over worldly trappings, striving for others to experience God's unconditional love through her presence.

After moving to Cairo with her family, Sohair completed her studies and launched a career as an English editor at a radio station, where she met Nabil Faltas, a charismatic broadcaster who became her husband. Together, they formed a strong partnership, united by a bold vision for the future. After marriage, they courageously immigrated to the United States, driven by hard work and steadfast faith that tomorrow would always be brighter than yesterday. Despite challenges, their hearts remained full of hope.

Sohair and Nabil both secured positions at the Defense Language Institute, where Sohair taught Arabic to American military officers. Her work reflected her passion for fostering understanding and peace, while also laying a strong foundation for her family. With tireless dedication, they often took on extra shifts, and their hard work paid off when they purchased land in Aromas, California.

Sohair found joy in tending the land, seeing it as a gift from God. The solitude deepened her connection to nature and Him. She viewed the property as a small piece of creation to honor and nurture, expressing her faith. In these quiet moments, she gained wisdom, strength, and serenity, always listening for God's guidance.

While the land was important, Sohair's love for her family was the heart of her life. She cherished every moment with her children and grandchildren, showering them with love, admiration, applause, and endless cheek squeezes. The small moments were her greatest treasures, and she never took them for granted. Her priorities were always clear.

Her devotion extended to her siblings, staying connected across continents through weekly Zoom calls that became a cherished tradition. Family and faith were her anchors, nurtured by deliberate practice.

Sohair's courage was evident in every aspect of her life. When Nabil faced his own battle with cancer, Sohair stood by him with loyalty and love, always offering strength and care. When it was her turn to battle cancer, she did so with the same grace and resilience, meeting each day with unwavering faith. Never allowing bitterness to take root, her courage was a testament to her love for God, her family, and life itself.

Sohair's strength wasn't just in her personal struggles. She boldly stood up to big banks, insurance companies, hospitals and others who tried to push her around. Though quiet in presence, our "Little Lion" had a thunderous roar, never backing down in defense of herself or her family.

Sohair's legacy lives on in the lives she touched. Her beautiful spirit is our true inheritance-more valuable than any material wealth. She was a one-of-a-kind generational blessing.

Sohair is survived by her sons, Bassel and Shaheer, her grandchildren Taylon, Newara, and Logan, and her siblings Dr. Makram Mansi, Dr. Samia Khalil, Samira Mansi, and Medhat Mansi. She has been reunited with her parents, Nazir and Sylvia, and her husband, Nabil, in eternal peace. Though she now deservedly rests, her love and light will continue to guide us all, always.

Sohair's Memorial Service will be held at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main Street, Watsonville, CA.
