Solomon Campbell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Murray Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. - Cascade Chapel on Dec. 5, 2025.
Solomon Isaiah Campbell Senior, lovingly known as "Buffalo," entered eternal rest on December 1, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on June 27, 1938, on the beautiful Caribbean island of Jamaica in the Drapers District of Portland, Solomon was the cherished son of Luther and Eliza Campbell. He grew up surrounded by the love and laughter of a large family, one of 12 siblings, and is survived today by his sister Sweetie Campbell and brother Carlton Campbell.

In 1969, Solomon's journey brought him to Rochester, New York, where he met the love of his life, Ida Lee James. They were united in marriage on October 17, 1970, and together built a family rooted in faith, resilience, and unconditional love. Solomon was the proud father of 16 children: Roderick A. Campbell, Kenneth A. Campbell, Keith A. Campbell, Solomon Isaiah Campbell Jr., Samuel J. Campbell, Shantana R. Campbell, Elihu I. Campbell, Jeremiah A. Campbell (deceased), Benjamin I. Campbell, Princess T. Campbell, Joseph J. Campbell, Joshua G. Campbell, Clyton E. Campbell, Arlene F. Campbell, Johnnie E. Ashley, and Aretha M. Campbell. His devotion extended to each of his children, and his legacy continues through 58 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends.

Solomon's early education in Jamaica instilled in him a strong character and determination that carried him throughout his life. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, spending two decades as a welder at General Motors (1973–1993) and later contributing his skills at Xerox. His hands were calloused from hard work, but his heart remained tender, always giving, always guiding.

Beyond his labor, Solomon embraced life with vibrancy. He delighted in cooking traditional Jamaican dishes that carried the flavors of home, enjoyed traveling and music, and found peace in fishing and outdoor sports. Yet perhaps nothing brought him more joy than the dance floor, where his energy and rhythm earned him the nickname "Buffalo."

A man of deep faith, Solomon answered God's call to ministry in 1972. His belief in the Lord Jesus Christ shaped his life and inspired those around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Eliza Campbell; his brothers Festus, Milton, Melbourne, and Neuvince Campbell; and his sisters Agatha McLoughlin, Hyacinth, Gwendolyn, Florette, Letitia, and Millicent Campbell.

Solomon's life was a testament to perseverance, love, and faith. He leaves behind a family strengthened by his example, a community enriched by his presence, and a legacy that will endure for generations. His memory will forever be cherished, his laughter remembered, and his spirit celebrated.
