Solonia Newell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Casper Funeral & Cremation Services on Dec. 8, 2025.
Solonia Elizabeth Newell, was born on July 8, 1931 in Carrollton, GA to her beloved
late parents Issac Newell from Randolph, AL and Belle Newell (McCoy) Williams
Sims from Roopville, GA. Mommy attended Carrollton grade school and graduated
from Carroll County Training High School on May 30, 1950. She always wanted to
become a school teacher, as math was her favorite subject in school. She was also
well-known by the name Lizabelle, by her Georgia family growing up in Carrollton.
She was the youngest of five and the only girl of four brothers. Her joy of southern
growth has always been the unique values that she held close to her heart.
Lizabelle, was baptized at an early age and attended First Baptist Church in
Carrollton, GA. Years later Lizabelle became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in
Carrollton, GA. She sung in the choir and served on a few committees. She enjoyed
mending and being creative with her hands.
In 1954, she gave birth to her first born Phyllis Garneshia Newell and in 1955, her
second born Stephanie Dawn Newell (Cosby). Her love for her daughters was
unconditional.
In 1964, Liz gave birth to her third born and only son Mark Anthony Newell and
lastly, her fourth born in 1965, Trayce' Bertrand Newell (Booth).
Liz worked at various jobs over the years. Liz attended Burdett Business School
where she graduated and received her certification in Clerical Procedure. She
attended Bunker Hill Community College, where she took some general courses. Liz
was trained and employed with Unitrode Electronics after her job closed with
Schraffts Candy Factory where she was employed for thirteen years. In 1987 she
worked for Boston University Hospital in Environmental Services and later merged
with Boston City Hospital which became Boston Medical Center East Newton
Campus. She was there for twenty-four years until her retirement at the age of 81.
Mommy, Mummy, Girl, Nana Bear, Mom, Your Mother, Nana Pop, Nanna, Little Girl,
and GG: These are the names she was known and called by her children,
grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.
Boston families, friends and many knew our queen by "Liz" and Ms. Newell.
Our mother was the matriarch of our family and a woman that was kind, generous
and loved laughter. She was a trailblazer for many who were in need and gave her
last, except for ten dollars. She was a believer of never going completely broke, "keep
some change for a rainy day" she would say. Our mother loved seeing the foliage
especially when traveling during her leisure time to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods
Resort Casino where she wore her favorite color RED for good luck.
She loved her sports and the Celtics was her No#1 team. She knew each players'
records and scores. She would scream Jayson Tatum's & Jaylen Brown's name when
both came on the court, especially when they made three pointers, Isaiah Thomas,
Paul Pierce and Larry Bird. The Patriots: Tom Brady. Red Sox: Manny Ramirez. Golf:
Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy. Tennis: Coco Gauff and Serena Williams.
