Sondra Lea (McNew) Smith

     Sondra Lea (McNew) Smith, 58 of Enfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. Sondra was born on October 27, 1965, in Olney, IL, the daughter of James H. and Patricia Delores (Kesterson) McNew. On February 14, 1984, she married Jeffrey Patrick Smith at First Christian Church in Carmi, IL and together they shared over 37 years before his passing on July 19, 2021. Sondra was retired, having spent her career in nursing serving others.

     Survivors include, her children, Joshua Patrick (Amber) Smith of Kailua, HI, Justin Ray (Kinsey) Smith of Fort Meyers, FL and Samantha Lea (Corey) Hazel of Eddyville, IL; her mother Pat McNew of Carmi, IL; grandchildren, Conor, Riley, Brittyn, Wyatt, Royce and Gunner; siblings, Cindy Sneed of Carmi, IL and Shellie McNew of Evansville, IN. Along with her husband Jeff Smith, she was preceded in death by her father Jim McNew and brother Doug McNew.

     A service celebrating the life of Sondra Lea Smith will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, IL with inurnment following immediately at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Enfield, IL, Family and Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Campbell Funeral Home 609 West Main St. Carmi, IL 62821, to assist with funeral expenses.
