Sondra L. Vardeman

Sondra L. Vardeman age 85, of Corpus Christ, Texas, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning February 3rd, 2026.

Sondra was born on January 8th, 1941, in Genoa, Texas to her father Louis Wysong Swindall and her mother Ruth Hazel Gilliam. Sondra grew up in northeast Houston. She met and soon thereafter married Kenneth Vardeman who was active in the US Navy and began to travel and reside in multiple locations throughout the eastern United States and with one duty station, a four-year stretch on the Island of Bermuda.

After 20 years of active duty, Kenneth went on to serve as a civilian for another 20 years and after adopting their son in Florida decided to move to and make Corpus Christi Texas a permanent home in 1970.

Sondra will be remembered for being a loving, caring, strong and determined woman. As a devoted wife, mother, friend and supportive sister to her family, she touched the lives of so many individuals. While working for multiple real-estate title companies and through her respected involvement at school functions for both of her kids, mom always did her best because she cared. As a den mother for Cub Scouts or Brownies or as an involved PTA parent or being a home room mothers' participant or hosting one of many neighborhood backyard parties, mom was always involved with child strengthening and development activities.

Sondra is survived by her daughter Melanie Ruth Vardeman and son Wesley (Rachel McCain Vardeman) Howard Vardeman, her grandsons Morgan Vardeman and Kasey Vardeman. She is preceded in death by her loyal and devoted husband of 55 years, Kenneth Howard Vardeman. With her passing Sondra was the last of twelve Swindall siblings.

A funeral service at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel 4357 Ocean Drive Corpus Christi, Texas 78412. The service will begin at 11:30am on Saturday, February 14, 2026, followed immediately by interment at 1:00 pm.

The family wishes to thank everyone that contacted us and came by to visit Sondra in the days preceding her death. This meant a lot to mom and confirmed that yes, she was loved by many.
