Sonia Del Rio was born on August 3, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois. She passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family.

When you hadn't yet met Sonia, by the end of the night there would always be a story about her love of life. She brought light and color into a room that otherwise felt black and white. Always forging her own path, Sonia walked her own road with confidence and passion.

Her spicy personality and refreshing directness were part of her charm. She loved being the foreman of any gathering, often managing what "we" should do, pointing at her coloring books with her familiar hand gesture - "get my pencils" - and insisting everything be placed neatly at her table. Her big, wide eyes whenever she discovered something new or encountered something she loved always brought joy to those around her.

There is now a void in the hearts of our family, but we take comfort knowing she waited for us to be by her side in her final moments. As Jr. said, "Sonia, vacation is over - Dad is waiting for you with the dogs." She will forever remain the love and light of our lives and will be deeply missed.

Sonia attended Courtney Young Elementary School, where she shared her love for socializing and dancing. She and her oldest sister, Elizabeth, delighted in watching back-to-back scary movies and classic 80s–90s films. With her playful spirit, she often claimed she knew exactly how the main character met their demise - though her stories almost always circled back to The Karate Kid.

As she grew older, Sonia found joy in her coloring books; owning more than 30 was never enough. Her life was rich with love, laughter, and smiles, always embraced by her family's deep admiration for her zest for life.
