Sonja Arlene Braun

Sonja Arlene Braun, of Wauconda, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, September 29, 2025 at the age of 94.

She was born April 27, 1931 in Lake Forest, the daughter of the late Henry Oistein and Helen Elisa Ovelia (nee Opsal) Jensen.

Sonja was united in marriage to William E. Braun on September 3, 1954. Together they shared 54 years of marriage until William’s passing in 2008. For 15 years, Sonja worked in jewelry sales at Carson Pirie Scott. She enjoyed gardening, having company, and above all, spending time with her family.

Sonja was the loving mother of William E. (Pamela) Braun, Jr., Nancy (Mark) Dopita, Linda (Bryan) Murray, and daughter-in-law, Melissa Braun; beloved grandmother of William, Lydia, Ellen, Kerry, Andy, Amy, Tim, Bryan, Jr., Meghan, Michael, Sarah, and Charlotte; cherished great-grandmother of Soren, Ethan, Mary, Jameson, Lucy, Eleanor, Jude, Mabel, Grant, Ladd, Wells, Adeline, Clara, Henrik, Elsie, Maxwell, Samuel, Joshua, Theodore, Scarlett, and Cameron; and loving aunt of Leroy Geske and Harvey Jensen, Jr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Braun; her brother, Harvey Jensen; and son, Robert Braun.

A visitation will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 25225 W Ivanhoe Rd, Wauconda, IL 60084. Entombment will follow at Randhill Park Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
