Sonja Ann Dearing

Sonja Ann (Cox) Dearing, 87, formerly of Fishers, passed away November 6, 2025.
Sonja was born July 18, 1938, to Forrest M. and Marion F. (Miller) Cox in New Castle, Indiana. She went on to graduate from Greenfield Central High School in 1956 and attended Indiana University.
In addition to working many years at Northwestern Mutual Life, Sonja was also employed at Western Electric, Liberty Mutual, RCI, and Topics Newspapers. She enjoyed camping, leading her daughter's Girl Scouts troop, gardening, playing guitar, and baking her fabulous bread for her family. She cherished every moment with friends and family, especially her eight grandchildren who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Trent) Moss of Nashville, Ind, Doug (Vicki) Dearing of Fishers, and Scott (Lori) Dearing of Carmel; her grandchildren, Ryan (Natalie) Fancher, Brandon Fancher, Aaron Fancher, Devin (Matt) Beckham, Brady (Hannah) Dearing, Samantha (Justin) Walters, Grace Dearing and Meg Dearing; great-grandchildren, Juliette Fancher, Arielle Fancher, and Robert "Bo" Beckham; siblings, Sue (Floyd "Sonny") Martin, Judy Boyer, and Robert "Sonny" (Linda) Cox; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Willa Dean (Cox) Lopez; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Wasson, Lou Lopez, and Vic Boyer.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paws On My Heart, Inc., by website at https://www.pawsonmyheartinc.org, to help rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome cats and kittens. Known as "Gramma Kitty" to her three youngest granddaughters, Sonja loved cats and rescued a few of her own. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
