Sonja was born on December 12, 1960, in Logan, West Virginia to Clettis and Helen Rogers Fenner. She moved to Gilman Iowa from Forest Park, Illinois in 2002 and developed a long term relationship with Mark Stubbs. Sonja and Mark enjoyed life together and she became a friend to many people. She especially enjoyed her dogs and her recent pet dog, "Suzie", was a loyal companion. Sonja was afflicted by juvenile diabetes during her life but she didn't let the disease define her. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, baking and trips to the casino. Survivors include her companion, Mark Stubbs of Gilman; her mother, Helen Reed of Iowa and Illinois; her two sisters, Debbie Chandler of Charleston, West Virginia and Yolanda (Jim) Heng of Grinnell; and three brothers, Rex (Teresa) Fenner of Naperville, Illinois, Rock (Dawn) Fenner and Steven (Dorraine) Fenner, both of Bolingbrook, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her father.

My childhood best friend, Sonja. You are remembered and loved! It's so hard to believe that you're gone- we just reconnected! I will always remember the times we walked around in the snow, went to the corner gas station for chicken soup', holding that little transistor radio and listened to music on WLS or WCFL. I remember walking up the back stairs to your house. Cindy left a couple of months before you- maybe you're hanging out now, walking those streets of gold and joining the angels, singing those beautiful worship songs to our loving Heavenly Father. Love you. Jim' (that's what you called me)

Dear Helen and Family,

I was deeply saddened at Sonja's passing, and feel like part of my life is gone with her. First, Cindy earlier this year, and now Sonj. So much of my childhood is filled with sweet memories of Sonja and me in school, or out (like the times we played hooky or walking around Forest Park, holding the transistor radio listening to WCFL or WLS and singing). Sonja was kind and tender hearted, and she will always be one of my bestest friends! I'm so thankful that God put her in my life. And also, that we reconnected after all these years! Your family was close to us, and we may not have survived without you all. I'm so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in Jesus and our Heavenly Father at this time. Love always.

Sincerely,

Jimmie
