Sonja Marie Gray, 86, of Concord, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at her residence in Concord.
Mrs. Gray was born July 31, 1939 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina to the late Ralph Henderson Whitley and the late Virginia Lucille Whitley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade William Gray, daughter, Pamela Marie Callahan, step-son William Gray, and two sisters, Doris “Dot” Klutz and Colleen Richards.
Mrs. Gray lived a life rooted in faith, love and service and was a faithful member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church for many years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was the heart of her family and a shining example of Christian grace. Her legacy of kindness, prayer and unwavering faith will live on through her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her. Mrs. Gray will be remembered for her love of the Lord, her gentle spirit, and the way she prayed for everyone she loved.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will follow in the chapel of Hartsell Funeral Home at 2:00 pm Concord with the Reverend Roger Bostic. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis at Hwy. 29N at I85, Exit 58, Concord.
Survivors include sons, Wade H. Gray and Wayne C. Gray, both of Concord, NC, step-daughters, Linda (Chuck) Eudy and Betsy Bost both of Concord, NC, and one sister, JoAnn Alexander of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jamie (Dave) Shepker of Mt. Holly, NC and Jennifer (Ronnie) Hartman of Concord, NC both of whom she raised as well as Samantha Gray of Liberty, NC, and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Atrium Hospice and the doctors at Atrium-Northeast and Mount Pleasant Family Practice for the care they provided Mrs. Gray.
Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), St. Jude’s’s, or Operation Smile.
