Sonja Ann Moore Griffith, 86 of Jonesboro, went to her heavenly home on October 12. She was born at Nettleton on September 1, 1939, to Marguerite Carter Moore and John Moore.
Sonja was a proud member of the Nettleton Class of 1957. She married A. Brooks Griffith, of Bay, on June 7, 1957. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2012.
Sonja started her administrative career at Southwestern Bell but spent most of her time at Nettleton Public Schools where she held positions in every building on campus. In the early 80’s she began working at Arkansas Rehabilitation Services where she retired.
Sonja taught Sunday School at Nettleton United Methodist Church, where she was raised and later at Forest Home Church of the Nazarene where she is a member. Her great gift was kindness and encouragement to all of the children she has known over the years. She and Brooks were also faithful travelers with the Forrest Home Youth Choir and they cherished trips with their Sunday School class. She was also a member of the church choir.
Sonja loved to watch the Nettleton Raiders play and rarely missed an ASU Indians game. She always welcomed her kid’s friends to the Evandale house at Nettleton where the door was never locked and the cabinets were always full.
Survivors include her daughter Cari Griffith White and her husband, William Kaut, son Kevin Brooks Griffith, and grandchildren Asher Griffith, Revel Griffith and his wife Olivia Stewart-Griffith, Kali Griffith and Abbi Griffith Varnado and her husband Jordan.
Great-grandchildren are Lydia Jane and Hope (deceased) Varnado, and Amelia Ruth Stewart-Griffith. She is also survived by her brother Neal Moore and nephews Patrick Moore, Dave Moore and Benjamin Moore.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Emerson memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Nettleton Cemetery with Emerson funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Her loving family will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time.
The family hopes that instead of flowers you will consider a gift to the Children and Youth Ministry at Forest Home Church of the Nazarene, 2403 Ritter Drive, Jonesboro, 72401. To sign an online guestbook, go to emersonfuneralhome.com.
