Sonya Kay Brooks

LIMA - Sonya K. Brooks, 88 of Lima, formerly of Ottawa passed on at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Gables of Marysville. She was born October 31, 1937, in Ottawa to the late Clyde and Josephine (Granger) Steinhour. Her father died during WWII and Sonya was raised by her mother and stepfather, the late Homer Ruhe. On October 26, 1957, she married Clifford E. "Sonny" Brooks and he passed on April 25, 2008.

Survivors include a son, Lee (Mindy) Brooks of Columbus; four grandchildren: Weslee Brooks, Rachel (Adam) McCaulla, Colin Brooks and Preston Brooks; one great grandchild on the way; a sister, Beth Ruhe of California, and a brother, Dan (Ann) Ruhe of Lima.

Sonya retired after many years as a banking specialist with The Metropolitan Bank of Lima and The Union Bank of Columbus Grove. She was a member of Faith Christian Church, in Shawnee. Sonya enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, crocheting, and coloring her adult coloring books. She loved animals, most notably her cat Blackie. She was a big fan of Elvis Presley and Bruce Springsteen.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2025, at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic with Pastor James Oats officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2025, and one hour prior to the funeral Monday at the funeral home.
