Sophia Kish Obituary

The family of Sophia Kish, of Natrona Heights, is saddened to announce her passing at 95, on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025. Though our hearts are heavy, our souls are uplifted by God's grace, wisdom, and the love we shared with her. Sophia was a constant in the lives of her family and friends. She did not have an easy life but lived one filled with resilience, faith, and love. At 16, she was rescued by her knight in shining armor when she married the love of her life, Paul (Bud) Kish. Together, they welcomed six children and built a home full of devotion and laughter. They shared over 60 years of marriage until Paul's passing in 2009. Sophia later earned her GED and worked briefly at Allegheny Valley Hospital in the nutritional department, as well as at the Moonlight Mushroom Mine as a picker. Yet her greatest calling was as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed baking, gardening, quilting, reading, playing cards, and writing notes to family and friends. Sophia was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where she faithfully attended Mass, sang in the choir, and volunteered her time and talents. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she never forgot the values she instilled in her children. In her later years, Sophia resided at Concordia Lutheran Ministries Nursing Home, where she was lovingly cared for and received comfort and support from Good Samaritan Hospice until her passing. Above all, Sophia's love, kindness, and devotion touched everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and family that will be cherished for generations to come. She is survived by her children, Mary Lou, Cuauhtemoc (Jim), Michael, Richard, Robert, and Andrew; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, in CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights, 724-224-8688, where a parting prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in Most Blessed Sacrament Church with her pastor, the Rev. John B. Lendvai, as celebrant. Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Sophia may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The Ladies of Charity will hold services in the funeral home at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2025. To send an online condolence, please visit www.cicholski-zidekfh.com.
