Sophia Mustafa Urban, of East Falmouth passed away in the arms of her son and her husband on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich. She was 59 years old.
My husband always said that I was the best wife, and I tried to be the best daughter, mother and friend that I could be.
I am leaving behind my husband, Peter M. Urban; my son, Justin C. Mustafa; my parents, Helen and Ahmed Mustafa; my sisters, Isha A. Emhoff, Amara Mustafa, Laila J. Dailey and special young lady, Chloe M. Dailey, nieces and nephews Analeise Emhoff, Chelsey Segrin, Robert Segrin, Thalia Freire; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and treasured friends.
When I was 15 days old, I dragged my family to Falmouth from Worcester – I was independent even then. Because I wasn't actually born on Cape Cod, my husband will not let me be called a native Cape Codder. I went to Falmouth schools, graduating with the Class of '80 from Falmouth High.
From 1982-1997 I worked at the Steamship Authority in Woods Hole, and I did nails out of my home for many years.
I volunteered for the Department of Mental Health where I led support groups all over the Cape. For 5 years I volunteered for the Chamber of Commerce and helped decorate the Elks float for the Christmas Parade.
Growing up my parents made time for my sisters and I to go on many outings such as the '68 Canadian Expo, picnics on Martha's Vineyard and the Barnstable Fair when it was held at what is now the Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds gold course. I enjoyed doing things with my son like the Barnstable Fair, King Arthur's Faire and we always welcomed friends into our home. My husband and I loved entertaining, videotaping lip-sync in the backyard with our friends, and spending time at the beach. As well as going to Chappy Beach with the girls to hang out at sunset.
Although I didn't climb any mountains, didn't win a Nobel Peace Prize, wasn't a famous racecar driver, pop singer or actress, I had extended family and friends, and was a good friend to many people. We shared so many laughs and had so much fun together. At the same time, I tried to always be there for them whenever they needed someone. It is so hard to leave them behind.
In January of 2019 I was diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma which is a rare form of bone cancer. I led walks for Chondrosarcoma Awareness for 2 years on Main Street where everyone knew my walking route with the help of some family and friends. Once the covid pandemic started, I began doing Diamond Painting and have done over 200 intricate paintings.
My faith is important to me, and I'm not afraid to die-it's just hard leaving my family and many friends behind. I believe that when you die you go to your favorite place-so look for me sitting next to a lake running my fingers through the water listening to the birds.
In the late spring-summer of 2022 there will be a Celebration of My Life at my home.
– Love Always, Sophia
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 15 from 2-4PM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 475 Main St., Falmouth. A Memorial Service will be held at 4PM.

Where do I begin? Sophia was a very long time friend of mine for many years. We met when our sons were friends in the elementary grades. She was not only my good friend but my Manicurist and the best one around. We shared stories about our boys and husbands, as there were many. I took small road trips with her whether to the Malls or beaches as we did nothing but laugh. My son always said, "Sophia is the nicest lady I know mom, she sticks up for me all the time and calls me her goofball buddy." Sophia, as I told you many times, your the strongest person I know as you faced your death with such grace. I will miss our talks and the close friendship we had. Give my son and husband a tight hug for me . Until we meet again, I´ll see you on the other side. Love you girl. Janet

I am a stranger who has never met your family. I am at an age (71) who starts each morning reading the obituarties. I came across Sophie . Her photo captured my attention. Her smile so warm and inviting. I have lost many loved ones in my life . This obituary warmed me like no other to date. I wanted to share my feelings with your family on how your words have touched me to my core. Embrace the fact your love for each other will make the time before you all meet again -bearable. Thank You for sharing . Irene

Although I never met Sophia, I wish I had. I heard about her from her Dad, Ahmed and her good friend, Darlene. From what I've heard she was an angel on earth. This obituary was so well written and personal, I feel I know her a little better now. To quote your Dad, "you weren't born here but you got here as fast as you could". Comgratulations on earning your wings and rest in peace.
