Soraida Yvonne Ruiz, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully in her hometown of Tucson, Arizona on May 4, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on October 27, 1963, she brought joy and laughter into the lives of those around her and held a special place in the hearts of many.
Soraida was unapologetically herself, a personality that endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was known for her sense of humor, her outspoken nature, and her boundless love for her family and friends. With a big heart, she fostered connections that will be cherished forever, leaving a lasting legacy of warmth and kindness.
Throughout her life, Soraida found joy in many hobbies. She loved coloring, decorating, and crafting, often pouring her creativity into beautiful projects that brought happiness to her home. Music was also a passion for her, as she enjoyed singing and sharing her voice with loved ones.
Family was at the core of Soraida’s proudest accomplishments. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dwayne W. Henderson, and her children, Josephine, Sergio, Benny, Alex, Sonny, and Julian. Her heart swelled with pride for her grandchildren: Nikki, Danny, Pnut, Sergio Jr., Sergio Alejandro, Alexia, Isaiah, Gabriel, Ariza, Leo, Luke, Benny Jr., Kortez, Isaac, Mariah, Paul, Jovani, Nayeli, Rosie, Serenity, Sienna, Karter, and Kylo, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jonissa.
Soraida is also survived by her siblings, Ruthie, Irene, Marybell, Oralia, and Sandy, along with her brothers, Robert and Rudy, who will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her son, Benny Canez, along with her parents, Sonny Ruiz and Irene Canez. Also, her brother, Gilbert Canez.
A visitation in her memory will take place on May 15, 2025, at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Tucson from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 3:00 PM where family and friends can gather to celebrate Soraida’s life and share cherished memories.
In celebrating Soraida Yvonne Ruiz, we remember a woman who was fiercely loving and unforgettably unique. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched throughout her journey. She will be greatly missed.
