SRI R. RAM, M.D.
Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Friend
Sri R. Ram, M.D., spent his retirement years cherishing time with his family, traveling, capturing photos, staying informed through the news and dining out. He found solace in the outdoors, which served as his ultimate sanctuary. Sharing his wisdom, especially with his children and grandchildren, brought him great joy. Sri was a gifted storyteller, often recounting tales from his decades of travel, and he loved sharing laughter over a good meal. Known for his sharp intellect, remarkable memory, iron will, high pain tolerance and steadfast dependability, Sri was deeply admired by all who knew him.
Surrounded by his family, Sri passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the home he shared with his beloved wife, Usha Ram, M.D., in
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Sri was born on January 3, 1940, in Madurai, Tamilnadu, India, to Rajaram and Kamala Devi Gomdo. He graduated from the University of Madras Medical School in 1963 and completed his residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, and George Washington University in 1971. In 1972, he pursued a fellowship at Uppsala University in Sweden. Shortly thereafter, Sri began a distinguished career as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. A pioneer in his field, he was honored to be part of the surgical team that successfully performed Michigan's first thumb implantation.
In 1969, Sri married Terry Zang, and from that union came two beautiful children, Sri and Kamala. In 1981, Sri married Usha Sarda, who brought into the family a son, Niraj. Both Sri and Usha were deeply dedicated to their medical careers and provided leadership and guidance to their religious community.
Family was the cornerstone of Sri's life. He was a devoted father to Sri Jr. (Natalie) and Kamala (Daniel) and a loving stepfather to Niraj. He was a proud grandfather to Srina (Abdul), Sophia, Nalin, Elena, Nicholas, and Jennifer, and a cherished great-grandfather to Malik and Kareem. Sri was also part of a large and loving extended family, including many siblings and cousins.
He is survived by his sister, Radha Jawahar Lal of Beaumont, Texas; his sister Thara R. Krishnan and brother-in-law Radha Krishnan of Knoxville, Tennessee; his brother-in-law J.K. Balamoorthy of India; and his sister-in-law Lalitha Mohanram of Charlotte, North Carolina.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at A.J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road,
Troy, Michigan. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
