Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home - DeQuincy on Nov. 19, 2025.
Stacy J. Holmes Ashworth was born on December 21, 1964, in Kirbyville, Texas, and passed away peacefully in her home on November 18, 2025, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 60 years old.
Stacy grew up in Old Salem, Texas, where she attended Newton ISD and graduated from Newton High School in 1983. She worked many jobs over the years, but was most fondly remembered for her time at Diamond Shamrock, where she seemed to meet everyone in town, and for her years as a guard at Phelps Correctional Center.
She married her high school sweetheart, Darryl Helton, in December 1983. Although they divorced in 1995, they remained close friends throughout her life. They continued to share every major moment as a united front, celebrating birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and even vacations together, always placing their children's happiness above anything else.
Stacy later married the love of her life, Michael Ashworth, on February 1, 2003. When Michael came into their lives, the children were just 14, 8, and 2 years old. Together, Stacy and Michael raised them with love, patience, and unwavering commitment, forming a strong and steady family foundation that remained at the center of her world. In her later years, Stacy stayed home to devote herself fully to her family. She always had dinner ready at 4:30 so Pawpaw could eat as soon as he arrived home, a small everyday act that spoke volumes about her devotion.
Stacy was an avid crafter who explored many creative hobbies, but her longest lasting passions were wreath making and crocheting. In recent years, she made it her mission to crochet enough lap blankets for the ladies of several small local churches. She completed this loving mission for at least four congregations that the family knows of, donating each set once it was finished.
She loved her people fiercely. Stacy was kind hearted, generous, and deeply devoted to her family. When her grandchildren began calling her "Gammy," she embraced the title wholeheartedly, and soon, everyone else did too. During countless FaceTime calls, Pawpaw could often be heard saying, "Gammy, did you see that?" as they watched the grandkids laugh and play. Being Gammy was one of her greatest joys.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Ashworth; her children, Ashley Guidry and husband Forrest, Jacob Helton and wife Taylor, and Alyssa Talbot and husband Cole; her grandchildren, listed from oldest to youngest, Morgan Palacio, Kira Guidry, Lucas Palacio, Hunter Guidry, Dayton Talbot, and Parker Talbot; her sister, Melissa Farris; her chosen daughter, Carolyn Bushnell; her nieces, Misty Stewart and Abigayle Godwin; her nephews, Blake Holmes, Anthony Irwin, Kyle Farris, Scott Holmes, John Irwin, and Andrew Holmes; her mother in law, Donna Ashworth; her brother in law, Beau Ashworth, and his wife Kelly; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, and many, many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Patricia Holmes; her father in law, Kenneth Ashworth; two brothers, Larry Holmes and Richard Holmes; one sister, Kelly Irwin; two brothers in law, Stephen Farris and Tony Irwin; two nephews, Christopher Holmes and Joshua Holmes; and her beloved cousins, Bonnie Nichols and Terry Winters.
